Commercially Pure Titanium Grade 2

DESCRIPTION
Titanium Grade 2, UNS R50400, is a commercially pure, unalloyed titanium grade widely used for applications requiring an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, moderate strength, ductility, formability and weldability. Often considered the workhorse of commercially pure titanium, Grade 2 is stronger than Grade 1 while still offering good cold formability and dependable fabrication performance. It provides excellent resistance in many oxidizing, neutral and mildly reducing environments, including seawater, chlorides, chemical processing media and marine atmospheres.

PRODUCT FORMS
Sheet, Strip, Plate

SPECIFICATIONS
ASTM B265, ASME SB-265, AMS 4902

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, condenser tubing and plates, desalination equipment, marine and offshore components, pressure vessels, reactor vessels, piping systems, tanks, anode substrates, medical and laboratory components, aerospace ducting and lightweight fabricated parts.

PROCESSING
Titanium Grade 2 is typically supplied in the annealed condition for sheet, strip and plate. It is not hardenable by heat treatment, but it can be strengthened by cold work. Annealing may be used after forming to restore ductility, improve dimensional stability and reduce residual stresses.

FORMING
Grade 2 offers good cold formability and can be bent, roll formed, stamped and drawn using appropriate tooling and forming practices. It has higher strength than Grade 1, so forming loads may be greater, but it remains one of the most fabricable commercially pure titanium grades for industrial sheet, strip and plate components.

WELDING
Titanium Grade 2 is readily weldable by standard titanium welding methods when proper inert gas shielding is used. Weld zones must be protected from oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen contamination at elevated temperatures to maintain ductility, corrosion resistance and clean weld quality.

CORROSION
Grade 2 titanium forms a stable, adherent titanium oxide film that supports excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, chlorides, oxidizing acids, alkaline environments and many industrial chemical services. Its corrosion resistance, low density and moderate strength make it a practical choice for marine, chemical processing and heat transfer applications.
