DESCRIPTION<\/strong> 
Titanium Grade 4, UNS R50700, is the highest-strength commercially pure, unalloyed titanium grade. It provides greater tensile and yield strength than Titanium Grades 1, 2 and 3 while retaining the corrosion resistance, weldability and lightweight performance associated with commercially pure titanium. Grade 4 contains higher oxygen than the lower-strength CP grades, which increases strength while reducing ductility. It is well suited for applications requiring a combination of strength, corrosion resistance and reliable fabrication in chemical processing, marine, aerospace, medical and industrial environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS<\/strong> 
Chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, condenser tubing and plates, desalination and marine components, airframe components, cryogenic vessels, pressure vessels, pickling baskets, medical and surgical components, hydraulic and instrumentation tubing, and lightweight fabricated parts requiring the highest strength of the commercially pure titanium grades. 
 
PROCESSING<\/strong> 
Titanium Grade 4 is typically supplied in the annealed condition for sheet, strip and plate. It is not hardenable by heat treatment, but it can be strengthened by cold work. Annealing may be used after forming or cold working to restore ductility, reduce residual stresses and improve dimensional stability. 
 
FORMING<\/strong> 
Grade 4 offers good formability for a high-strength commercially pure titanium grade, but it is less ductile and requires higher forming forces than Grades 1, 2 and 3. More severe forming operations may require generous bend radii, controlled tooling practices and intermediate annealing to reduce the risk of cracking. 
 
WELDING<\/strong> 
Titanium Grade 4 is readily weldable by standard titanium welding processes when proper inert gas shielding is used. Weld zones and adjacent heat-affected areas must be protected from oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen contamination at elevated temperatures to maintain ductility, corrosion resistance and clean weld quality. 
 
CORROSION<\/strong> 
Grade 4 titanium forms a stable, adherent titanium oxide film that provides excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, chlorides, oxidizing acids, alkaline environments and many industrial chemical services. Its higher strength allows designers to use commercially pure titanium in more demanding load-bearing applications while maintaining strong resistance to corrosion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
